DRIV3R Xbox Game Review
Rented DRIV3R over the weekend and gave it some playing time.
Quick impressions: fun game in the free for all mode, extremely annoyingly repetitive in the actual scenario mode. IGN had it right in their review "What you'll do is replay the same level over and over again, despite the relative ease of the levels."
The problem is when you start to play the levels you have to repeat them over and over to get it right. At first you are having fun figuring out the driving, but soon you are cursing the lack of save points that make you redo the whole thing, and wondering just how your car can flip when you hit a curb at the slightest of angles, and how far you have to chase the guy until the level is accomplished. I ended up quiting the regular game and just running around in the open-ended 'training' level. It promised that you could find secrets, etc., but I didn't come across any at all.
What did I like? The driving was fun, checking out what you could do with different cars - raw acceleration vs. cornering - was cool for a while. The motorcycles were a blast.
What didn't I like? Walking around added an extra dimension, but in the end was not executed well. Boats and swimming also added a new twist.
Should you play it? Yes & No... Rent it our buy it cheap and it's well worth it, pay full price and unless you are hardcore driving game enthusiast willing to take a lot of flaws along with the game you won't feel you got your money's worth.
